Legendary Professor of Guitar, Benjamin Verdery - Yale School of Music, comes to Houston on June 15th. Scenes from Ellis Island has been broadcast extensively and performed throughout North America, Europe and New Zealand. Inspired by Verdery’s trip to the Ellis Island Museum, “I was particularly moved by various photographs of people in whose eyes one saw such hardship – so many, hoping and dreaming of a better future life here in America. Ellis Island was known as the ‘Island of Hope, Island of Tears.’ This description weighed heavily on my mind as I wrote the piece.” It is written in 8 sections/scenes with projected images.

This legendary professor of guitar at Yale Music School for 40+ years, has performed throughout Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Verdery released over 17 albums – recorded and performed with scores of diverse artists, including Andy Summers, Leo Kottke, Anthony Newman, Jessye Norman, Herman Prey, Paco Peña, John Williams, hip-hop artist Billy Dean Thomas, Jiji, and the St. Lawrence String Quartet – to name a few.
