Doug Rock, 61,  joined Smith International in 1974.  Before becoming president of Smith International, Inc. in March 1987, he was president of both the Smith Tool and Drilco Divisions.  He was named Chief Executive Officer in March 1989, and Chairman of the Board in February 1991.  Mr. Rock retired on January 1, 2009 and remains Chairman of the Board of Smith International, Inc.

Rock received his bachelor of science degree from The Pennsylvania State University where he is a Distinguished Alumnus.  Mr. Rock and his wife Julie helped establish the Rock Ethics Institute at Penn State.

Mr. Rock is vice president and treasurer of The RockJensen Foundation. He is a director of the American Petroleum Institute and a director and former chairman of the Petroleum Equipment Suppliers Association (PESA).
