RRI Energy shakes up top management

RRI Energy Inc. has formed an office of the chief executive officer to manage the newly formed company. The Houston electricity company, formerly known as Reliant Energy Inc., was created this month following the close of Reliant’s sale of its Texas retail business to New Jersey-based NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE: NRG). The office includes Mark Jacobs, president and CEO, Rick Dobson, chief financial officer; Michael Jines, general counsel; and Rogers Herndon, senior vice president of strategic planning and business development. The team will be responsible for RRI Energy’s (NYSE: RRI) strategic direction and priorities. “With the repositioning of RRI Energy as a standalone wholesale merchant generator, it is appropriate to adjust our management structure to ensure that we have the right people in the right roles to execute the company’s go-forward strategy,” Jacobs said in a statement. In connection with the new management structure, Brian Landrum, chief operating officer, and Charles Griffey, senior vice president of regulatory affairs, have resigned. RRI Energy said it does not intend to fill the positions. Suzanne Kupiec, senior vice president and chief risk and compliance officer, has also resigned. Jines will assume the role of chief compliance officer. Dobson will temporarily assume the role of chief risk officer while the company conducts a search for a replacement.
