Meet the Board

DAVE ALDERSON is our treasurer. He, Paul Pryzant and Fred Wolgel were instrumental in getting the Club 501(c)(3) status. Dave moved to Houston in the late 70’s after getting an MBA from Wharton to join Pennzoil, where he worked for 21 years, the last five as CFO. More recently, Dave was CFO for a privately-held manufacturer in the oilfield services industry. He is a Dartmouth alumnus, a CPA, and serves on the board of the Emergency Aid Coalition and on the finance committee of Catholic Charities.

LEAH BARTON is Business Integration Manager at MxEnergy Inc. after spending three years in strategy and business development with Shell Chemical LP. She has an MBA from Wharton, an MA in International Relations from the Lauder Institute, and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Yale University.

Prior to Wharton, Leah worked in hydrogen energy with Nuvera Fuel Cells, and served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Tanzania. Leah also serves on the board of the Yale Club of Houston and actively volunteers for the Women's Resource, a non-profit promoting financial literacy.

EVAN BETZER, past president of the Club, is co-founder of Stoneworth Financial, an investment banking boutique advising family-owned and closely-held companies on company sales, mergers and acquisitions. After graduating from Wharton with an MBA in Finance, Evan moved to Houston to join Enron and work on asset development projects in China and US gas, coal and telecom deals. Prior to Wharton, Evan served as a diplomat in the US Foreign Service fulfilling assignments in Beijing, Taipei, and Washington, DC. In addition to a Wharton MBA, he holds a BA from Dartmouth College.

DOUG HEGUY is a Commercial Leader in GE Energy's gasification licensing business, a leading provider of cleaner coal technology.  Before joining GE, Doug held positions in International Business Development with BP and Amoco, and Sales and Marketing positions in specialty chemicals and engineered products businesses.  Doug earned his MBA from Wharton and holds a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Rochester.

Doug started what is now the Wharton - Rice Career Networking Group, which aims to help MBA holders in Houston make connections that assist their job hunting and career development objectives.

CHRIS KRUMMEL, our current president, is CAO of Cameron International, who provide flow equipment, products, systems, services and brands for upstream through downstream applications. He has over 15 years of experience in the energy and oilfield services industry.

He received an MBA from Wharton with honors and graduated summa cum laude undergraduate from Creighton University. He serves on the Board of Directors for Rebuilding Together – Houston and is also Vice President of the Congregational Council for Covenant Lutheran Church. Not to be outdone by Dave, our sax player, Chris plays drums in a rock and roll band.

MARY JO MARTIN is the founder of Cynapsus. Cynapsus provides the left-brain part of marketing - market research and analytics.  She has helped companies like CITGO, Shell, SUEZ Energy, Spectra Energy, Flint Hills Resources, Petris Technologies, Texas Gulf Coast Medical Group, BioHouston, FedEx, and Charming Charlie to understand their customers better and to make more effective use of their marketing dollars.

She is our communications guru and has also served on the Boards of the American Advertising Federation - Houston and the Business Marketing Association (BMA). She has an MBA from Wharton and a BS in Chemistry from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, where she met and married her college sweetheart. She has a son, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren here in Houston, and loves hiking, birding, and West Texas.

JAMES PAVLIK is a Principal at Avalon Advisors, a Houston-based wealth management firm.   He joined Avalon from McKinsey & Company in Dallas.  Prior to obtaining his Wharton MBA with Honors in 2004, he lived in Houston and was an advisor in finance and accounting, including positions of Vice President at Schnitzius & Vaughan, a boutique M&A investment bank, and Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers.  He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin.
 

In addition to his role with the Wharton Club, James serves on the Board of Crisis Intervention of Houston, Inc. and on the Communications Committee of the Royal Oaks Residential Community Owners Association.

PAUL PRYZANT has over 25 years of experience as a corporate and securities attorney.  He is a partner at Burleson Cooke, LLP, a rapidly growing firm of 23 attorneys located in downtown Houston, which focuses on clients in the energy industry. Paul’s practice includes mergers and acquisitions, securities, private equity, venture capital and corporate governance.  Paul earned his undergraduate degree from Wharton and his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law.

Paul serves as the Wharton Club’s General Counsel, as well as a board member.  Paul’s other outside activities include serving as the General Counsel of the Houston Angel Network, and serving on the Jones Partners Board of the Jones Graduate School of Management of Rice University.

STEPHEN VOSKO received his undergrad degree from Wharton in 1975 and went to McGill University for a law degree. While at Penn, he met his beautiful bride Beverly who is president of the Penn Alumni Club of Houston. They have two daughters who have made the rounds of the Ivy League: Jennifer, a Princeton ’04 grad, who now has her JD from Harvard, and Michelle who has just graduated from Penn with a dual degree including Wharton.

Stephen is the Chairman of our social committee and the founder of our Deal Flow Lunch. For the last two years, he has spearheaded our annual charity classic golf tournament, raising nearly $20,000 for our scholarship program for Wharton candidates from the Houston area. Stephen is a financial advisor at Sagepoint, providing financial and insurance products to corporate and personal clients.

JAN YOUNG is a manager of financial planning and analysis at Crane Valves in The Woodlands and has previously worked for Texaco and Shell. She earned her BA in Economics at DePauw University and an MBA from Wharton.

Jan established the Resume Bank for the Club and has chaired a number of Career Networking Seminars. Last year, she coordinated the Club’s Hurricane Katrina/Rita relief efforts and also worked with the United Way in the allocation of over $1 million in interim funding to Houston agencies involved in hurricane victim assistance. Jan has been volunteering with the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast since 1996.

LEONARD WEINER, JD, CPA, MBA, is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization Estate Planning and Probate Law and Tax Law and he is a Certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation.  He helps entrepreneurs, businesses, individuals, families, executives, and professionals with business law, business planning, estate, succession and legacy planning, and income tax planning.  Leonard is licensed to practice law in 39 states, where 94% of Americans live.  He has spoken for many professional groups locally and nationally.

Leonard is a past president of the American Association of Attorney - Certified Public Accountants, Inc., who awarded him the Louis S. Goldberg Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement; a Director of the Texas Society Certified Public Accountants; a member of the Houston Estate and Business Planning Council; a Director and Treasurer of the Houston Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals; a former Director and officer of the Houston Bar Association; and he is a Member of the College of the State Bar of Texas.  He received his BS from Wharton School of Finance, JD from Georgetown University Law Center, and MBA from the University of Maryland.
